Portfolio Monitors
The advent of the computer age has meant the end of "paper" book keeping. The move to online investing and research has made the Internet the focal point of most investors efforts to cash in on the markets.

With the large amount of information available and required by each investor, portfolio monitors are now offered on multiple websites.

A portfolio monitor essentially keeps track of your stocks, how well (or poorly) they have done.

Smart Money
This is one of the best portfolio options available to you on the Internet.

With up to 50 portfolio’s tracking 50 stocks each, this portfolio system will be enough for any trader.

Options of interest include e-mailed status reports on your portfolio, sortable columns (i.e. by gain or loss), the ability to edit columns, Java or non-Java viewing changes, links to research as well as the "news" column which displays a highlighted newspaper when current news is available on the firm.

This portfolio only takes 2nd to Quicken because it lacks the wide variety of options found on the Quicken site. Where Quicken has dozens of options for columns, appearances etc.. SmartMoney is limited to only a dozen or so columns and limited options.

This is an excellent option for any trader and possibly even a better option than Quicken for a newer Internet surfer who might not be comfortable with the dazzling array of options presented by that portfolio system.

¡¡

Quicken
Simply the best portfolio tracker on the Internet.

Users are offered either the standard format or the newer "enhanced version" (which requires a download).

The options available are too numerous to mention. The spreadsheet can be entirely customized by whatever variables you wish to see. Your shares, purchase price and all other personal information can be kept and tracked on a daily basis.

In addition there are three features which makes this portfolio stand above the crowd. Price and news alerts are posted next to the ticker symbol. No longer would you have to search for your stock to find out if a press release has been issued, your portfolio will simply be updated and should you choose you can read the release. As well, clicking on the ticker symbol will lead you to Quicken’s stock evaluation center which is one of the best on the web to analyze a company.

Simply a superior portfolio monitor.

¡¡

Financial Web
Financialweb offers an extremely basic portfolio which serves to track your current position in the market.

Essentially the portfolio will keep you current as to your current gain/loss position as well as provide a link to Finacialweb’s research.

Editing the portfolio is easily done and this represents a solid option for those users with relatively limited needs.

This is a portfolio that does nothing superbly, but everything adequately. Quicken remains your best choice. This represents a solid option for your portfolio tracking.

¡¡

Financials.com
Generally a very basic portfolio that will keep track of your purchase price, current gain/loss and provide links to a quote, chart or company information.

Editing the portfolio is extremely easy and can be done extremely quickly.

This portfolio is recommended for a user who’s needs are very straightforward and who simply needs to know where he/she stands in the market. Quicken offers superior options for the same price (free) and so Financials.com’s portfolio is best left to those who need only a basic tracker.
